The week following Thanksgiving is the United Church’s Week of Action on Food.  This leads to the UN International Day for the Eradication of Poverty on Oct 17th and World Food Sunday on Oct 18th.

Brechin United Church always contributes to Island Crisis Centre’s blue box program at this time of year. (There is already information about this program on the Brechin website under community and information on how to contribute in our weekly newsletter). Many members of Brechin volunteer at the Nanaimo Food bank and our choir, due to Ron Klusmeier and Christine Bogucki’s involvement with the Canadian Foodgrains Bank, has put on concerts along with others who wish to participate, to raise money for this organization. We, at Brechin, are trying to do our part to end poverty.

The Minute for Mission for Oct 18th :

Bridges to Hope is a project in St. John’s Newfoundland committed to reducing the affect of poverty on families and individuals. They have a community kitchen, a food pantry and a Bag to School project to give out school supplies to those who need it. To see their video go to united-church.ca, to Worship, Oct 17/20 and click on a message of hope.
